Calling All Young Readers

For the month of December, we (Mom and I) thought we would let each of the older cousins suggest one of their favorite recent reads. My kids would love to know what Nathan, Ella, and Luke have discovered this year. Personally, I find myself enjoying the books Abby and Ellie are reading more than those I've checked out for myself half the time. So, should be fun....

Kiddos, feel free to add your choices to the comment section of this post anytime over the next month or so, and I will update our list.

  1. Nathan and I have read Michael Vey--Prisoner of Cell 25 and we can't wait for the next one to come out. You see, Michael Vey has these powers that can shock people. We really liked that book and maybe Abby and Ellie and Luke and Sam would too.

  2. Tom Sawyer has been one of my favorite books this year. It is about a naughty boy who lived a while ago and he went on many exciting adventures, including tricking everyone into thinking that whitewashing a fence was fun. He reminds me of another Tom, from the Great Brain books, who was also very clever. I also recommend those books.

  3. Nathan remembered another favorite series he's been enjoying this year. It's the Bagthorpe Saga, by Helen Cresswell, about a highly eccentric English family. The first one in the series is Ordinary Jack, in which the only non-eccentric child in the family decides he needs to develop some oddities in order to be noticed. Farcical fun--I've enjoyed re-reading them along with Nathan. The only problem is that I don't think they're still in print, so some of them are hard to find. But if your library has them, they're worth checking out.

  5. I just read The Incredible Shrinking Stanley. It is about a boy named Mitchell. Who's best friend, Stanley, shrank when some laundry detergent gets spills all over him! Then a witch made him grow and he burped like crazy! Then every time he burped he grew an inch then Mitchell asked the witch if she could make Stanley back to regular size, but she could only do it if he wanted it. At last he chose to go back to his regular size
    THE END
