Just finished reading The Night Strangers tonight. Not really scary. Just odd. I thought it was very cleverly written, though I haven't read many other ghost stories to compare it to. Did feel a bit like The Turn of the Screw. I need someone else to read it and explain to me why there are 39 bolts on the door. 375 pages later, I still don't know if that is coincidence.
I'm thinking this could give you a new perspective on your Rosemary and Thyme, Mom. Detectives or witches?
Lots of love!

I finished The Night Strangers last night, too. Not a terrible read, and kind of fun for Halloween, but odd is a good word choice. I'll admit I rolled my eyes quite a few times. The two strangest moments for me were the "kiss" in the middle of the book and the brief section when we hear the story from the cat's point of view. What?!?!
ReplyDeleteAgreed! I was relieved that neither came up again! I was pretty nervous there for a while. I also felt like there were two separate storylines that never quite came together for me. Ah well, at least we were left with a nice creepy ending to keep us in the Halloween spirit. I call Cinnamon, Cinny, for my herb name! Andrea, you can have Cumin, or maybe Paprika. You choose!
ReplyDeleteOoo, I chose Cilantro! I felt the same way about the two story lines. There was way too much going on, yet it still dragged a bit for me. Sorry, I can't answer your question about the 39 bolts. Just a creepy coincidence? Is it a reference to Alfred Hitchcock, I wonder? After reading this and Unbroken, I have little desire to get on an airplane anytime soon. :)
ReplyDeleteNo way Rosemary and Laura are witches. No way.
